Vacation

For me it seems that my vacations are tied to other events. My trip to Utah this summer was no different. My younger sister was graduating from BYU so off to Utah I headed for a week. One highlight of my trip was getting to meet up with some fellow photographers from one of the online forums I am a part of.

I grabbed my dear friend Becky and we headed out to the old Saltair to take some pictures. There was some willing models that were there but I have just as much fun taking pictures of the surroundings.

Here is the group as taken by a photographer we met while out there, Robert Schmidt.

Speaking of my friend Becky her younger sister had recently got engaged so I took a few engagement pictures for the happy couple.

Sweet little Ryan

You might remember this slightly soggy maternity session. Well her sweet little boy has arrived. I got to go over one morning when he was just 7 days old and get these sweet pictures.

This sweet little boy was sleepy but also very hungry so he was eating in between most of the photos. Gotta love a healthy eater.

I can't wait till we can get some pictures of him and hi little sister together. Congrats again Rasmeet and Saran, he is a very sweet little man.

This little man and his very beautiful Mama came all the way from Utah for his portrait session.

He was wide awake the whole time and he sure did like eating those cute little fists of his.

Check out those amazing blue eyes.

He used up quite a few smiles before he arrived at his photo session but we managed to pull a few more out of him and that face is so sweet even without smiles how can you not love him.

Even the rain couldn't stop us

June has been a really rainy month this year. But we were not going to let it stop us from getting some Maternity pictures done of my sweet friend and coworker.

She is not only a very sweet woman, but a fabulous coworker, I miss worknig with her now that she is in another department...

Her Hubby is such a sport and even hopped in a few pictures when we asked.

How fitting she had this blue umbrella since she is having a little boy any day now.

I can't wait to get the baby pictures of your little boy once he makes his grand entrance! Hopefully his big sister will want to get in some pictures too!!

A closer look

I have been itching to play with my macro lens more. I really love this lens and just don't get to use it as often as I would like. I took it out onto my pack patio today and played around with capturing some closeups of various plants back there. These 3 ended up being my favorites out of the couple dozen I took.

Penny's got a new hair style

I have not really had a proper chance to introduce my sweet Blythe Doll I named Penelope Paprika (Penny) because I really have not had a chance to do a proper photo session with her. However, today when I got home I was feeling kind of blue from a rough couple days at work, and the fact it is still raining. Well I a a little package waiting from a sweet friend and fellow photographer, Heather. Inside was a new wig for Penny so I had to change her and slip the new wig on so I could snap off a few quick pictures. Doesn't she rock her new pink and purple style?

As I walked by a mirror I noticed my hair was looking a little like Penny's. So I think it is either time to cut it all off, move some place with less humidity, or dye it pink and purple so penny can be my mini me. What do you think?

A severe case of the wiggles

So my friend Em wanted ONE decent pictures of her boys together as a father's day gift for her sweet hubby. Sounds like a simple request, nothting perfect just both boys in the same picture looking at the camera. Well seeing as Sir O. had quite a severe case of the wiggles it turned out to be quite the challenge.

I thought it would be cute since Dad is in his last year of Dental school to pick up these Giant tooth brushes at the dollar store. Umm bad idea, when Sir O. wasn't trying to brush his teeth, his brother's hair or some bird poop off a rock he was just swinging it around.

Luckily Dad was willing to hop in a few pictures too, still not an easy task to calm the wiggles we managed to get a few with both boys at least looking my general direction.

Love these little boys but I sure don't envy his mom having to keep up with him all day. The Captain fell asleep as they were getting ready to leave, just watching Sir O. wore him out.

One more from the group as promised

As I mentioned in my last post that we had one girl missing from the group and it just would not have been complete without some pictures of her. Well with the fear of having some unattractive camping pictures or some from pioneer trek photo-shopped in she swung by my house for some quick shots. So sfter she helped me chase my evil dog around the block and catch him we took a few quick pictures of her so I would have them for a project being worked on for all 6 seniors.

Isn’t she beautiful? She has 2 gorgeous sisters too that I need to get pictures of at some point. I have known this beautiful young woman for years and I knew her parents back when I was younger than she is now, it was before she was even born, man that makes me feel old. There will always be a special place in my heart for this young woman and her entire family for that matter.

We had an audience the entire time. Yep about six little bunnies were hopping all around checking us out while we were trying to get the pictures taken. So I had to shoot a few of them too. As you can see they were a bit camera shy.

Best of luck next year at College, I will miss you!!

A fun group of Seniors

I have had the privilege of working with this great group of young adults through church. They are really are a remarkable group that I am going to miss as they start their next stage of life which will take most of them west for college. We just grabbed these shots right outside of church and were kind of regulated to one spot since it was the only shade we could find. It was still a ton of fun though to get to do this mini session with them.

This shot took about 6 or 7 tries till we gave up since we knew we were not going to get one that everyone was happy with. The funniest part is the one that wanted to keep retaking the shots is the one that had his appendix out 10 days prior.

Aside from the group shots we got some individuals of each one.

Yep this is the same girl that crawled in a dumpster full of books from my previous post.

This here handsome fellow is the older brother of the last sweet baby that flipped me off... Yep he is the oldest of the 7 children in the family..

This photogenic beauty will be moving to Texas then heading to Idaho for school, she has one busy summer coming up!!

This handsome guy was such a trooper, went along with all our crazy ideas, and his mom hung out with us while we got the shots taken!!

This Rock-star organized the whole thing so we could do the pictures before everyone went their separate ways after High School.

We were missing one of the girls that had to take off right after church so I am going to try to get some individual shots of her soon, so be sure to check back.

One of my goals this year was to hang up more of my own work. So I thought I would take a picture of these really cool M&M's I got for Graduation and display them on my wall.

Over 100 pictures of these delicious little candies and I still don't think i have found the perfect shot yet. But I thought I would share just a few samples. I love these personalized M&M's they are so fun!!

Baby makes a family of 9

This little angel is the 7th child of the most amazing blended family.

Okay maybe she is not quite 100% angel. This was the very first shot I took. Yes this is the 3rd newborn in a row that has flipped me off!!

This adorable little boy belongs to the fourth and final of the families moving now that they have graduated from Dental school.

He belongs to this beautiful Mama to be I did maternity pictures for. He is so sweet and I am SOOO happy for this sweet couple.

Now this little guy was having nothing to do with sleep. He fought it the entire time I was there. To his credit they were packing up the apartment around us while I was shooting the pictures. Yep the pictures were coming off the walls and books off the book cases. Grandpa was told the only way he was getting to see Gettysburg was if the apartment got packed so he was wasting no time.

Oh and this little one is NOT a fan of the sound of packing tape tearing. He would flinch every time.. Maybe that is what caused him to flip the middle finger, and it wasn't directed at me for trying to tuck his arms down. I am going to get a complex if the newborns keep giving me the finger..

The only way we could get sleeping pictures was while he was in Mom's arms..

The Third of 4 families moving this week...

So these 2 belong to yet another family moving away because graduation from Dental school has them headed onto their next stage of life. I was so happy to get a chance to get in one more session before they headed west.

Now who wouldn't love those sweet little curls little miss K has?

I have to admit though I am in stitches when it comes to getting pictures of her big brother Z. He has an amazingly vivid imagination, which leads to some very funny expressions, AND a million poses.

Another great family that is moving this week. Yet another Dental school graduate. It is tough growing to love these families that leave when their 4 years are up but so thankful for the chance to get to know them.

These little girls are not only adorable but totally love having their picture takes, well as long as no bugs are close by.

And Lola is the sweetest best behaved dog. I love when she is in the pictures too!!

A fun Morning in Philly

Now these two probably look pretty familiar. Yep they are from my last family session. See since they are moving they decided they just could not get enough time with me with one session so they booked a second session for just the two of them Early Saturday morning. By early I mean we headed down to Philly at 6AM. It was great because there was no traffic and hardly anyone around the places we went to take pictures.

These two are so in love and it was easy to capture with my camera.

Chelsea is one very lucky woman to have Matthew who is always willing to get pictures done when she asks.

Matthew is a very lucky man, just look at that wife of his... Plus she is an amazing mother of their two children.

Oh and did I mention I have major shoe envy? (The yellow heels, not the Zach Efron shoes)

To make the day even better... I didn't have to drive and they bought me breakfast afterward.. Thanks again guys, I will miss you. It is always fun getting to take your pictures.

I love this family!!!! But since dad has graduated from Dental school they are heading out to Kansas to start their new life. But before they went they needed some new family pictures before heading off. I was quite happy about this. I just love taking their pictures. They always are dressed super cute and we always have a great time.

They didn't get a chance to get family pictures at graduation so we took a few before getting started on the rest of the session.

While dad was getting ready we snapped a few solo shots.

She sure has her mom's beauty

Introducing Princess Pazlie

This little one is the baby sister to a whole bunch of brothers, who just adore her by the way, as do her mom and dad. I love the way they spell Pazlie, (pronounced Paisley).

She was stubborn about falling asleep, She nursed so much we were afraid she might explode and yet she still did not want to go to sleep, and she was a strong little thing and kept trying to rollover if we put her on her belly, the little stinker. So we got a bunch of her awake..

Here is where she is letting me know she has had enough of the picture taking.

Of course that didn't stop me from getting a few more.

I can't wait till we get to do family pictures with all her big brothers.

Little miss J has her 1st Holy Communion

I confess I am a bit behind on blogging but will be gettign caught up here in the next week or so.

Last May I got to take pictures of Miss J's older sister on her special day so I was thrilled I got to be there for hers. She looked like a princess.

These 2 girls are just beautiful and I love there big pretty eyes.

Had to snap a few of her big sister too while we waited.

Of course Bridget needed to bew part of the action.

I was going to type up a really good break down of costs to share with people then I found through the power of google some already pretty great explanations so I thought I would share those links with you all instead. While not exactly the same break downs as I have it is pretty darn close. Reading that reminded me just how expensive it is, and looking at the pile of receipts I have come tax time I should not be surprised...

It was a great weekend from photography aspects, we won't talk about the rest...

Anyway I got the chance to pick up my friend Chels and her little girls and head to the local college campus to take some pictures. The weather was great and the girls were in a good mood. Of course they were full of the wiggles and staying still for pictures was not on the top of the list of things they wanted to do but I think we managed to capture a few shots that showcase their adorable personalities.

These little munchkins always make me smile.

I love the way she called her sisters yellow umbrella a Lellow Brulella (or something like that.)

Anticipation

All babies are a blessing from God. Sometimes it just feels like an even bigger blessing. My sweet freinds Dave and Emily have been waiting for several years now to have their lives blessed with a child so that they can grow their family. I have gotten to know them over the last four years while Dave attended Dental school. Well on May 14th Dave will gradutae and it just so happens that it is also the due date of their first child. Now how special is that?

Well we were lucky enough to get some true spring like weather yesterday and I picked up Emily and we headed over to Valley Forge park and captured these images of her. Isn't she just a beautiful Momma to be? I should also mention she is just as beautiful if not more so on the inside. Her and her dear hubby are just genuinely sweet people!!

And in a few weeks I will be photographing their sweet little boy they have waited so long to meet. I can't wait!!

You might remember this maternity session... Well the sweet little princess arrived and I got to visit for a couple days and take tons of pictures. She is such a little doll.

Little Miss E had her opinions on being undressed so we didn't get any nakey baby pics.

She might not have been the easiest baby to photograph (She gets that from her dad) but I am pretty smitten with her anyway, and can't wait till the next time I get to photograph her.

This handsome little prince is a month old, however he made an appearance a few weeks before his due date. He was an absolute joy to photograph. He was nice and sleepy since he decided to keep mom and dad up the whole night before. Don't you just love that luscious full head of hair he was born with? (I hear his older brother and sister were equally as blessed...)

He only started to wake up towards the end when we tried to get a few naked baby shots.

I am still getting caught up on pictures I took while in Indiana a couple weekends ago. Well here is a few of a little cutie some of you might remember from last July, Little Miss I. She has only gotten cuter and for just under 18 months is one incredibly smart little girl.

Even though it was nice and sunny she had no problem popping on her cute little rain gear for some outside shots..

This time they came over to my cousin's house for pictures so of course this little cutie got to play with their dog Ernie.

Waiting for a Princess

I am a bit behind in blogging but figured now was a good time to get caught up. A few weekends ago i go tto visit my cousin in Indy and do some maternity pics for her. She is expecting her first child in less than a month now, a little girl. This little girl, also known as sweet pea, or baby Rice is already spoiled. I can't wait for her to arrive so I can do pictures of her also.

Some pictures of the party favors from the shower her mom hosted for her. Love the personalized M&M's that my aunt has become obsessed with doing.

A little red-headed angel

This little girl is such a sweet and happy baby, and a miracle baby to her family. Although 2 months can be a tough age to photograph I got lucky with the amount of neck strength this little doll had.

He was a very Squirmy and awake, but grandma was great helping him get to sleep

When Photographers get bored

So I was waiting for some people to come for their headshots this morning, and after enjoying the great view from the conference room I was in....

A very talented fellow photographer Karen Sorbello Phtoography also does digital paintings of images. She took one of my favorites from my brother's wedding and turned it into this beauty..She did an amazing job. Thanks again Karen... I can't wait to get this printed out...

So I thought I would try to start out 2009 and get a good shot of Grover. I even used my 85mm so I could get a shot from a distance... He had other plans. I am not sure what that wink portrays but I don't think it is anything good... the little stinker.

I managed one more quick shot before he took off but still not great so the quest is on for 2009 to get a wall portrait worthy shot on this little stinker!!

Photography Resolutions

What is the new year without resolutions right? Well I thought I would post my photography related ones here.

1. Post at least once of week in the POTD challenge(It doesn't matter if I am on theme or not) as part of one of my favorite Photography boards I am a part of. (2 Peas)

2. Get some of my work printed out and hung up on my walls, finally.

3. Play more with off camera flash and lighting in general.

4. Organize organize organize... really go through my personal photos and just delete the stuff I don't really love, and get things organized better for 2009.

5. Finish up my website and keep it current.

Since I know I will need to focus on finishing school I decided to keep this list short and keep it to things that are really important to me.

My Baby Brother got Married

On December 27th my baby brother, Josh, married the love of his life, Kristine. It was a beautiful day and I was lucky enough to be there to take the pictures for him. To make it even better our baby sister was my second shooter. I gave her my backup camera and set her on her way and for her first time using a DSLR she did a fanatastic job.

One advantage to taking pictures for family... You might not get paid but when else does the groom carry your tripod, or does the sister of the groom fill in as a second shooter and you don't have to feel guilty..

Tis the season

Well I couldn't let this year pass without snapping a shot of our Christmas tree, so i drug out the trusty tripod and snapped a few. You might be wonder why I needed a tripod, well the setting on this shot were ISO 100, f/22 ss 15 seconds

I was able to considerably shorten that time by bumping the ISO up to 500 for this one still f/22 but only a 4 second exposure

of course they would look nicer without the surround sound speaker in there, or if i straightened the tree skirt, or if the sofa was not in the way.. but you get the idea..

One HOT Mama to be on one really COLD Day

Even thought it was only int he 20's today "E" was a trooper and we headed over to Valley Forge Park to do some maternity pics for her. The belly Monster as she affectionately refers to her little boy #2 is due in about a month.

"E" is beautiful to begin with but she has that amazing Pregnancy glow now on top of all that beauty. I can't wait to meet the Belly monster and do some newborn shots for you next month...

I thought it would be fun to get some cute pictures of Grover to use for a Christmas card this year. Grover had other ideas.

He was not a fan of the hat.

We got a couple that were okay but not in the little area I had set up for his pictures. Grover is clearly on the top of Santa's Naughty list this year!!

An interesting art collection

I have shown pictures of where I work and mentioned it is a pretty unique place. Here is a bit more about it. The CEO and founder of the company I work for along with his daughter have spent the last 10 years or so building a very unique art collection. It is called The West Collection. Many of the pieces in the west collection are on long term loan to the company. They even have art tours that the public can sign up for.

The other night there was a networking event that started with some wine, fruit and cheese and an art tour. I got to go and snap a few shots of people enjoying the event.

Where else can you see giant shoes made entirely of licorice.

or Lit up art work made from cockroach wings. (Yes I said cockroach wings)

or large portraits of crying runny nosed toddlers. (By Canadian Photographer Jill Greenburg if you know of her)

or and enormous oil painting of a dead fly that sits right between the rest room and the cafeteria...

or one really angry giant 9+ foot giant diptych Toddler. (As a side note years ago where I sat was right in front of this giant toddler and I always felt like she was watching me...)

Service Award banquet

The great thing about being a photographer is you get to capture a lot of different things with your camera and meet all sorts of fun people. This is the 3rd year I have gone to the McNeil Service award banquet. It is always a great time, this year was no exception.

I don't get it... and a random picture of Grover

So as I sit here going through thousands of pictures trying to decide which ones to put on my website I naturally keep getting distracted by pictures I forgot I have taken. This is one of those. This is from a local park where I do quite a few sessions. There is this random roof on stilts that is surrounded by a fence, no plaque or anything explaining the significance, just a roof on stilts. I just don't "get" it. But I did like it enough to take a picture, I think I like it better in B&W but not sure!!

These next too are for a fellow Photographer whose girls were wanting to see some more pictures of Grover. So Jenn these are for your girls... They are not new but I came across them today, they are from when I was waiting for an appointment to show up this summer.

A different perspective

I should really be working on gathering pictures for my website but instead I found myself playing with other images. I came across these pictures of wheels I took for a work project. One is the wheel from my desk and the other is from my filed cabinet. Not something I would normally give much thought too till I looked at them from this angle, they are kind of cool looking.

Okay back to my website picture gathering, at least until I find a new distraction.

So this afternoon we were short on daylight and the sun decided to hide behind the clouds as soon as we started taking pics. However with such a cute family it was not tough to get some keepers. Even their Dog is adorable!!

Miss G was a little poser, it was easy to get cute pics of her smiling.

Little miss E took a little longer to warm up to me but as you can see she is a sweet little thing too.

Loving this great Fall weather

It makes for such fun family pictures. PLus no one is freezing the minute we step outside. For this great family we went to a local college campus (Ursinus, which is where I am currently taking evening classes. I love this campus so it was fun to take some family pictures there.

After we took the family pics we got a few of the kids together and individually. Little Miss S was gettign silly by the end which kept it fun!!

It was a fun afternoon.

Friday I got the chance to take a few pictures of the various events work was doing for Halloween. Work was a little emptier than usual though since a lot of people decided to join the 2 million ohters that went down to watch the Phillies parade in honor of them winning the World Series...

Yep another gorgeous family, must be something in the water around here.

For this family we didn't have to travel far for a good setting, we used their back yard. I forgot how tough it can be to get a good shot of 8 people or even just the kids, all looking at the camera, or close to it, but we got a few.

Of course the dogs were not much help

And it was raining babies.

I have had the pleasure of watching these two sweet kids grow into the amazing young people they are today.

However sometimes I have trouble remembering they are not still these two adorable little babies I photographed all those years ago.

My Friend Missy

Missy and I were best friends back in Kindergarten and then I moved. Well thanks to facebook she tracked me down nearly 30 years later. It has been great getting to know her again. Even better she let me snap some pictures of her.

She showed me around this great park near her house, and was willing to climb in trees to allow me to get the shots I wanted, it was kjust like old times.

These last couple capture her personality perfectly.

She couldn't be any cuter, or any sweeter. I am glad she tracked me down after all these years.

You get this gorgeous family.

I was thrilled when they asked me to take their fall family pictures, even more thrilled that they brought along their fabulous chair as a prop.

And this mom has an eye for style and thrifting. She found some great stuff at the thrift shop to help complete their adorable outfits.

This little doll was not in the mood for pictures butt she did a great job and could not have looked cuter.

Her big sister did better because the bribe of brownies worked wonders.

Thanks Perry Family for a fun morning. I sure am going to miss you when you move in the spring.

Where is Work is unique for a number of reasons. from the architecture, to the culture and the wild art collection. So Last Saturday I stopped by to take a few pictures for our digital Media group and decided to share a few here.

Even the parking garage has a cool look to it. So much so I took this shot from a few slightly different angles I can't decide which I like best.

I love how there is beauty in nature all around. This past weekend the weather was fabulous and I decided to get a few nature shots in. Even the weeds are pretty if you look at them from the right angle.

I have had some great opportunities lately at work to do something very different from my day to day responsibilities and it is something I love. Yep I have been able to do some photography at work. There has been headshots and some misc little items and 2 company wide happy hours.

The food was great, and the entertainment was top notch.

Miss G is turning 1

Now you might recognize this adorable little one since this is my 3rd session with her. Aren't I lucky to have such a cutie to take pictures of. She is turning one in a couple of weeks and this was something her mom and I wanted to try with her. She got sick on the day we had planned to do it but we managed to fit it in a couple days later and I am so glad.

3 Generations

One of my coworker's had his father visiting from India so I volunteered to take some family photos while his dad was in town. This was a relaly fast phtoosession since it looked like it might rain at any minute and I had to get home and pack for my vacation the next day.

His little girl was such a good subject. I look forward to getting a chance to do more pictures of her in the future.

A Loving Mom

I got to shoot some pictures of my classmate and her two kids this weekend. She is a single mom working part time and going to school part time. I admire her and it was fun to meet her kiddos and take some pictures of the three of them. Her son "C" was a great subject. His little sister "K" was a typical 3 year old and didn't really want her picture taken and wanted none with her brother..
We snuck this one in before she decided she wanted nothing to do with him.

This one she had no idea he was behind her..

I even convinced mom to get in a few shots with her kids..

Chubby Cheeks

My friend Lindsay has two adorable little kids. I got the chance to shoot 6 month pics of her daughter this week, and will be doing a set of 2 year old pictures for her son as soon as it warms up a little along with a family portrait before they up and move to Alaska.

This little munchkin as the cutest chubby cheeks, actually 2 sets of chubby cheeks. She is one of the happiest babies who is always full of smiles and VERY squirmy so it took a lot of tries to get shots of this little wiggle worm but mom is happy with them. I would have preferred not to use the flash but the lighting was not good enough to get high enough shutter speeds to stop her in action..

While I was Over at Ginnie's working on some PPing one of our other friends brought her sweet little girl, KJ, over for some baby pictures.
